The VT Black Alumni Society is deeply concerned by the recent decision of the Virginia Board of Visitors (BOV) to eliminate the university's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs. In advance of this outcome, the VTBAS Board wrote to the BOV expressing strong opposition to this eventual decision and to voice our support for DEI efforts.
This decision is troubling and reflects the broader national challenges facing universities, particularly as academic institutions across the country face increasing political pressure and threats to their missions.
Despite these challenges, our commitment remains clear: we will continue working to maintain a strong relationship with Virginia Tech and actively seek ways to support and promote an inclusive, welcoming environment for all.
In this critical moment, we urge all VTBAS alumni to stay engaged and informed on developments at the university and make your voices heard. Vigilance and dedication to our mission are essential as we navigate this evolving landscape together.
